DVD: The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan
The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan, the hit National Geographic Channel show that takes us into the homes of problem dogs and documents the remarkable transitions that take place under the guidance of Millan, comes to DVD on May 23, 2006.
The rehabilitation techniques Millan has applied to the recalcitrant canines of Oprah Winfrey, Nicolas Cage, Scarlett Johannson, Michael Eisner, Michael Bay, Hillary Duff, Will Smith, Vin Diesel, and many others will now be available for home viewing with the premiere of The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan DVD.
Last season, ten million viewers watched Millan on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” as he told one of the most powerful women in America that the problem wasn’t her beloved canine Sophie, the problem was, in fact, her own lack of leadership. Oprah was so impressed with Millan’s ability to take control of her famously willful canine she has since invited him back on the show to help her with her new puppies.
Millan suggests that many dog owners, in their desire to give their pets love and affection, don’t establish their own dominance, essentially leaving the dog in control. “Most dog trainers strive to have the animal fulfill the need of the human first,” says Millan. “With my method, I first connect with the dog’s mind, and then on a physical level. This process allows me to communicate with the dog and rehabilitate his behavior. Once this is accomplished, the animal will happily and willingly fulfill the needs of the owner.”
In only a few short years, Millan has transformed himself into the star of his own hit series and successful owner of the Dog Psychology Center of Los Angeles. Located in South-Central LA, the center houses a target number of 50 “pirate” dogs — last-chance Rotweillers, Pit Bulls, and Dobermans originally marked for death who now enjoy a new lease on life while they assist Millan in training other dogs.
