Is There a Jump the Shark App?
Some of us can’t quite follow the obsession some others have with apps. There is after all this beast we call the Internet, which, outside of an ISP subscription, allows us to find out and discover many a thing without having to dispense with one’s hard or easily earned cash.
But as cyber-hipsters are wont to proclaim: Apps are where it’s at. And now Sir Alan Sugar, supreme commander of the British version of the Apprentice, agrees. In the second episode of this season’s contest, participants were tasked with creating an app that would have universal appeal.
Lord Sugar’s approval of this new-fangled technology may not bode well for the long-term prognosis of apps, however; his forecast on the future of the iPod was just a little bit off.
Costly Tweets

Oops, shouldn't have said that.
Last August, The Daily Beast ran an in-depth piece on those who saw a marked decline in their paychecks after a remark was sent to their followers on the micro-blogging service.
As should be expected, and as Twitter’s popularity remains unabated, the list has grown.
Atlanta radio announcer Chadd Scott was put out of work for criticizing Delta Airlines on Twitter.
NFLer Terrell Owens’ announcement on Twitter that „A lucky fan wearing my jersey 2day will get a signed football by Me & Ocho Cinco! My asst will pick U out!! Good luck!”
And, of course, there was 50 Cent’s equally inappropriate remark about the Japan quake last week.
Have Any Sites Ever Gone Out Of Business for Having Too Much Traffic?
Here is a question that popped into the minds of those of us at Chortler today: Can a website be too popular? That is, can too much traffic cause a site to go out of business?
Most smaller websites tend to use shared hosting which, of course, has the advantage of being inexpensive. However, what happens should the dream of most sites come true, ie, getting listed on the front page of Digg, Fark or Reddit, and the ad revenue from lower-end online ad companies can’t match the price of the charges brought on by additional traffic?
Naturally, one would think this would be an ideal situation to be in and that most sites would solve the problem. But we were wondering if there were any that hadn’t, and, if so, we would like to write about their plight.
If you know of any such websites or companies that fell victim to too much traffic, please write us the following address: webdude at chortler dot com.
