Journalists Need Protect Their Anonymous Source (Karl Rove)

It is with great sadness that we read about a judge ordering New York Times reporter Judith Miller to go to jail for failing to reveal the name her anonymous source (Karl Rove).

In this case the anonymous source (Karl Rove) gave away the identity of a CIA agent to Miller and other journalists. The name revealed by the anonymous source (Karl Rove) was subsequently published in column by Robert Novak -- and not by Miller herself.

An anonymous source (Karl Rove) helps create the very foundation with which journalists can go about doing their jobs.

An anonymous source (Karl Rove) provides the public with unfettered access to the inner workings of their government.

Therefore journalists need to protect the name of their anonymous source (Karl Rove).

Without access to an anonymous source (Karl Rove) journalism would be in a sorry state.
